Man in courtroomThis post serves to conclude and recap my series on the handling of Austin, Texas cases which involve sex-related charges. I wrote on this topic due to the fact, for obvious reasons, defendants often do not know how to proceed after they have been arrested. Hiring an experienced criminal defense attorney is the most important thing someone charged with such an offense can do. The goal of my recent articles has been to provide information which will help people to fully understand their situation. It has also been my goal to provide information which will assist with the selection of a criminal defense attorney. If you or a loved one have been arrested then contact my office today to speak with a lawyer.

I addressed several topics over the course of this series. Issues which I have analyzed include:

There are several reasons why I chose to address these topics. First, the consequences of a conviction for sexual assault can be devastating. These consequences can include prison time, the requirement of ongoing registration, and a sense of rejection from society. Second, it is not uncommon for one to face sexual assault charges as a result of false allegations. These allegations may be an alleged victim’s effort to gain leverage in child custody proceedings. They may also simply be an angry ex’s effort to “get even.” Third, cases involving pornography may very well involve search and seizure issues or legal questions which implicate the First Amendment. Finally, even if one has completed their sentence – they should be aware of the penalties for failing to maintain their sex offender registration.

One point I have stressed in each of these articles is the need to contact an experienced criminal defense attorney immediately if you have been charged with a sexual related offense. The defendants in such matters tend to be shown little leniency from courts, prosecutors, and from society at large. By retaining counsel as soon as possible, you allow your representative to begin building a defense on your behalf.
