This is the first post in a series which will discuss the process of defending against sex-related charges in Austin, Texas. Anyone accused of such crimes is facing potentially serious consequences. For understandable reasons, many do not know what to do after they or a loved one have been arrested. I cannot stress enough that contacting an experienced criminal defense attorney is the first thing one should do. The goal of my coming articles is to provide information which will help people to better understand their situation. It is also my goal to provide information which will assist with the selection of a lawyer. If you require assistance then contact my office today to schedule an initial consultation.
I will be addressing several topics over my coming posts. Issues which I will analyze include:
- Defending against rape or sexual assault charges
- Why sexual assault charges are sometimes based on false allegations
- Defending against charges involving pornography
- The consequences of failing to register as a sex offender
There are several reasons why I am choosing to address these topics. First, assault charges carry serious consequences. In addition to prison time, one may be required to register as a sex offender. Second, as with domestic violence cases, there are instances where claims of assault are, in fact, false. Third, there are numerous ways of defending a matters involving charges of child pornography. Such cases sometimes involve search and seizure issues as well as disputes over whether one actually possessed the materials. Finally, serving probation or parole for a sex offense often carries special requirements. Failing to meet these requirements can result in additional penalties.
I cannot stress enough the importance of contacting counsel sooner rather than later. It is crucial that your attorney immediately begin an investigation as part of building a case on your behalf. I have been practicing since 1995 and am certified by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization as a specialist in criminal law. Contact my office today to speak with a lawyer.
